The Allen Challenge

The purpose

The Allen Challenge has been created to prove in a live, real-time demonstration that Bill Allen’s program for teaching dyslexic reading to children really works and to get that good news in front of thousands of kids and parents who can benefit from it.

The set up:

A television station selects 50 children who will be accompanied by their moms.  The station also chooses a reading expert to oversee the administration of the before and after tests, to ensure validity and reliability.  The parents and kids must be available as follows:

Day 1—3 hours

Days 2 through 5—1 hour each day

On Day 1—the parents and the children will come to a central location.  The parents will receive instructions in how to do the program and how to administer the reading tests.  The kids will take an oral reading exam to determine their starting reading level and will then be coached using Bill Allen’s Learning To Read program.

After the students are tested on Day 1 and the parents are ready, the kids and parents will work one on one on the first day’s tutoring.  We will need a single room large enough to hold that many parents in one group, and spaces sufficiently quiet for the kids to work with their parents one on one for a couple of hours. Bill Allen, owner and CEO of LD Coach, will provide the instructional materials at no cost to the participants and a team of people to provide instruction to the parents.

The television station may film any and all of the interactions between the LD Coach Team and the children or the children and their parents as they work with the program.  The television station will be responsible for getting sign offs from the parents and children.  Bill Allen will get the sign offs for his team.

On Days 2, 3, and 4 the children and parents can work at home, though it might be best to have them return to the same place so we can monitor and film the actually coaching taking place.

Follow-up:

If the parents decide to continue with the program, they may purchase the program at half-price, with thanks for their participation and with their agreement that they will continue with the entire series and send in results of reading tests when they are finished.  Actual grade level increases will continue until the students are reading at or above grade level.  For most students in this age group the program will take 8 to 12 months.
