Lets Talk About Questions Relating Specifically to the Learning to Read Program
How many words in The Learning to Read Program can a student learn in one day?
A student can learn as many words as he desires each day. However, between learning each word, a student must take at least a ten minute reading exercise or break of some sort before continuing with learning the next stumble word.
Why is it important that the student identify himself as the child in The Learning to Read Program books?
When the student identifies with the child in the book, he internalizes the actions shown in the book as his own. This internalization of the individual and his actions is necessary for the student to have a sensory experience of what he is reading. Through his internal experience of what he reads, the abstract experience symbolized by the letters and words on the page becomes more concrete for the student.
Why is it necessary to do the Tune In & Turn On Exercises?
The Tune in & Turn on Exercises help the student (and his coach) to integrate the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and to integrate brain and body function. They are specialized exercises that have been developed to activate and integrate different functions of the brain and body. Using them relieves the stress and frustration that develops while learning something new, and enhances awareness of one’s body and thinking.
The fidgeting, wiggling or finger tapping dyslexic is often unaware of his body motions. When the student uses these exercises repeatedly over time, he begins to develop awareness about his body and the ability to regulate his body motions, as well as his thinking. Doing the Tune In & Turn On Exercises makes it easier for the student to learn.
What is the difference between the Mind’s Eye and the Imagination?
Everyone can see what is in their imagination, but no one can see their mind’s eye. The mind’s eye is what looks at (perceives) the content of the imagination. Through the mind’s eye, a person can mentally visualize and experience what they are thinking.
Will the MELT™ techniques help a student who is on medication for ADD/ADHD or depression?
Ultimately the goal is for the student to be able to learn without medication. Each student needs to be evaluated individually. IF the medication helps him, then its continuance is wise. If the medication does not act as a noticeable asset to learning, then the student needs another way to improve his learning. The MELT™ techniques provide tools for reducing stress, improving brain integration and optimizing the ability to learn and work at any level.
What books should my dyslexic child be reading?
The best way to encourage a child to read is to find books close to his reading level that are about topics that he is passionate about. Feed his passion while he learns to read, instead of requiring him to read a number of books from any particular list.
